Dragons’ Den star Steven Bartlett has shared that he will be offering up a spare room to a Ukrainian family.

The 29-year-old has signed up to the government’s Homes for Ukraine plan in which Brits can take in families fleeing from Ukraine.

Communities secretary Michael Gove told MPs there will be no limit to the number of people who can benefit from the Homes for Ukraine plan.

UK sponsors will be asked to sign up for six months and will receive a tax-free £350 allowance to help offset the costs, which Steven will be donating to a charity.

The podcast host wrote on Twitter: ‘I have a spare room at my home here in London so I’ve signed up to offer it to a Ukrainian family.

‘The £350 monthly fee for housing a refugee family will be donated to @decappeal who @DeborahMeadan recommended for their ongoing work in Ukraine.’

Steven invited others to ‘join’ him in offering their homes to those who need it.

Fans praised his gesture, with one writing: ‘Great job! I donated my speaking fee to @decappeal as well. ‘LOVE is not cancelled ‘ and will conquer hate!’

Another commented: It’s good to know that you are actually doing something positive and not just talking the talk like so many people in the public eye. Well done.’

Fellow Dragon Deborah Meaden retweeted Steven, praising: ‘Brilliant wonderful Steven.’

Steven has joined the likes of Cher and Benedict Cumberbatch who have also opened up their homes to people fleeing the Russian invasion.

Speaking of the government initiative to Sky News at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday, ahead of the Bafta ceremony, the Power of the Dog actor – who showed his support for Ukraine with a yellow and blue badge – explained his hopes to volunteer his own home.

‘It is a really shocking time to be a European two and a half hours flight away from Ukraine, and it’s something that hangs over us,’ he told the publication.

‘This is what I’m trying to do to show that I’m standing side-by-side with my brothers and sisters who are going through this.

‘We all need … to do more than wear a badge. We need to donate, we need to pressure our politicians to continue to create some kind of a refugee safety and a haven here for people who are suffering.

‘Everyone needs to do as much as they can … there’s been a record number of people volunteering to take people into their homes, I hope to be part of that myself.’
