Holding is the brand new ITV drama that’s set to hit our screens this week – and promises to be our next obsession.
It is a dark, comedic whodunnit, adapted from TV personality Graham Norton’s best-selling 2016 novel of the same name.
The murder mystery also boasts a star-studded cast, featuring Game of Thrones’ Conleth Hill as local police officer Sergeant PJ Collins and Oscar-winner Brenda Fricker.
PJ leads a mostly peaceful existence in the village of Duneen, a sleepy town in Ireland.
However, when human remains are discovered buried on a local farm, PJ is tasked with solving a serious crime, for the first time in his career – and finally, he’s forced to reconnect with a village he’s tried to ignore.
Here’s all you need to know about ITV’s Holding.
Who is in the cast of ITV’s Holding?
Leading the cast is two time Laurence Oliver winner Conleth Hill, who will star as PJ Collins and is best-known for his role as Varys in Game of Thrones.
Derry Girls star Siobhan McSweeney is best known for her role as the hilarious Sister Micheal, and she takes up the role of Bríd Riordan.
Oscar-winner Brenda Fricker also plays Mrs Meany alongside Peaky Blinders’ Charlene McKenna as Evelyn Ross.
Clinton Liberty also appears alongside Hill as DI Linus Dunne.
Other starts include Helen Behan, Amy Conroy, Pauline McLynn and Sky Yang.
The drama is directed by 57-year-old comedian Kathy Burke, who recalled nearly turning down the project.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other press, she said: ‘Usually, I say no to telly directing.’
‘I’m normally a theatre director, that’s what I love and what I’ve been doing mostly for 20 years. I’ve always said no to any TV projects coming in.’
‘But,’ she revealed, ‘I had listened to Graham read Holding during lockdown. Because I was busy with the hands – making spliffs!’
When is Holding on TV and how can I watch it?

The show will have four episodes each airing at the same over the next four weeks.
The series is written by Dominic Treadwell-Collins and Karen Cogan.
