Stanley Tucci has taken on many roles throughout his illustrious career… but who knew he could have played Queen’s Freddie Mercury in his college years?!

In a new post shared on Instagram, the Devil Wears Prada star uploaded a throwback photo sent to him by a friend from his time at State University of New York at Purchase, where he graduated in 1982.

Not only did his moustache and full head of hair spark astonishment among his followers, considering he is typically bald, but also the fact that he bore a striking resemblance to Freddie, thanks to the facial hair, brunette locks and white vest top.

‘This was just sent to me from a friend. C’est moi at university about 42 years ago. Ah, youth. Ah, hair,’ the 61-year-old wrote in the caption.

Several Instagram users responded in the same way, expressing their shock over the likeness between the actor and the late musician.

‘Holy smokes! I thought this was Freddie Mercury! What a gem of a photo,’ one person wrote.

‘Freddie Mercury doppelgänger,’ someone else said, with another quipping that he was the Bohemian Rhapsody singer’s ‘double’.

One person said that the photo looked like it could have been taken from a biopic created about Freddie.

Others also praised Stanley in general for his appearance, with one remarking: ‘Like an excellent bottle of wine you’ve matured beautifully.’

Stanley has become known for delighting his fans with his social media posts, particularly during lockdown when he created soothing videos teaching people at home how to make various cocktails.

Last month, the Easy A star left This Morning presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby giddy when he made them negronis to drink on the ITV programme before midday.

‘The sun is now in your stomach,’ Stanley said as the trio raised their glasses for a toast.

He recently launched a new cookery show called Searching for Italy, exploring diverse regional dishes across the country.

The Oscar nominee is married to Emily Blunt’s sister Felicity Blunt, having been introduced to her at Emily’s wedding to John Krasinski in 2010, four years after they starred in The Devil Wears Prada together.
