LAHORE: Air quality of Lahore has been acknowledged as ‘very unhealthy’ for its populations as smog has surrounded the entire city due to a change in the weather.
The city is ranked as one of the most polluted cities in the world by US Air Quality Index (AQI) acquiring the rating of 246.
Lahore is graded as the third most polluted city in the world followed by New Dehli and Ulaanbaatar.
The data claims that the maximum level of environmental pollution is logged in Model Town, Johar Town, Green Town and Cantonment areas of Lahore.
The high level of environmental pollution in the city, problems of respiratory diseases and throat and eyes infections are on its peak.
It has been advised by the medical experts to avoid visits to open areas and mandatory use of facemasks and eyewear.
The public needs to understand that smog is a form of air pollution that exhausts into the air, stated the Punjab Minister for Environmental Protection Department Muhammad Rizwan.
However, significant level of crop burning in India also exaggerates the smog condition in Punjab, particularly in Lahore.
He further stated that a project in association with SPARCO has been introduced in Lahore to improve diverse types of environmental simulations to address the main causes of pollution.
He appealed to the media representatives to help the government in the awareness among the people to avert environmental pollution in the city.
