The Sainsbury’s 2021 Christmas landed a true icon for its narrator in the form of the wonderful Stephen Fry, but did you spot Drag Race UK’s Bimini Bon Boulash too?
The retailer is the latest in a long line of other brands to release their festive offerings, following adverts from Aldi, John Lewis and Marks & Spencer.
But with everyone not-so-patiently waiting for Christmas adverts recently, some of those tuning into Sainsbury’s new clip spotted a brilliant detail that featured right in the middle of the chaos.
The retailer included a nod to Drag Race UK favourite, Bimini, during a traditional family game of Guess Who.
In a blink and you’ll miss it moment, the grandmother in the scene can be seen with a post-it note on her head, with Bimini’s name written on top.
The Drag Race star even took to social media to comment on their inclusion, writing: ‘How cool is this? I’m on the Grandmother’s head as part of the family’s ‘guess who’ Christmas game in the new Sainsbury’s advert!’
The retailer quickly responded, saying: ‘We couldn’t have our Christmas advert without @biminibabes What clues would you give her Bimini?’
Of course, fans soon got to work with their suggestions for clues, including some of Bimini’s best Drag Race moments.
One wrote: ‘East London’s bendiest vegan, enjoys tender lentils,’ with another commenting: ‘The nipples are they eyes of the face,’ and another fan responding: ‘Release The Beast!
The Sainsbury’s advert perfectly encapsulates the frantic nature of Christmas Day, as viewers see a family get well and truly back into the festive spirit as they reunite at last.
Radha Davies, Director of Brand Communications and Creative, at Sainsbury’s said: ‘With so many of us unable to spend Christmas with our loved one’s last year we, along with the nation, are really excited to fully celebrate Christmas once more.
‘One of the true highlights of the festive season is the much-anticipated Christmas dinner. Whilst the food is important, it’s also about what that meal represents, spending quality time with loved ones, catching up, enjoying a delicious meal and above all, having fun together.’
The clip is soundtracked by Etta James’ At Last, with Mr Fry passing on the message: ‘It’s been a long time coming, so let’s make it a Christmas to savor.’
