Bindi and Robert Irwin each posted emotional tributes to their late dad on Sunday, which marked the annual Steve Irwin day.

Fifteen years after the zookeeper’s tragic death, the pair both took to Instagram where they honored their father’s legacy.

Robert captioned the heartfelt post: ‘Thinking a lot about my Dad today and the impact that he made on our planet, inspiring an entire generation. I also think about what a truly amazing dad he was.

‘Through a lifetime captured on camera and stories from my family and those who knew him best, I’m able to remember the special times with dad.

‘I still look up to him every day and while I miss him so much, it means the world to me and my family that each year we can have a day for the world to celebrate what he stood for.’

Bindi also acknowledged the special day with her 4.8million followers.

‘Your legacy will live on forever. I love you for even longer,’ she wrote.

Steve died after a bull stingray behaved unusually aggressively, stabbing the wildlife expert hundreds of times with the barb on its tail, piercing his heart which caused fatal internal bleeding.

Earlier this year, the Irwin family launched their YouTube channel on what would have been Steve’s 59th birthday.

His son Robert, 17, shared the announcement on his Instagram page on February 22, revealing it would include never before seen footage of the late TV star.

Robert said: ‘I am so excited to announce the launch of our new YouTube channel! This has been a long time coming and we thought that today, on Dad’s birthday would be the perfect time to reveal this exciting new chapter.

‘From never before seen footage of our dad, to the most behind the scenes look into our family adventures ever, and also exclusive content showcasing our conservation work. You’ll be able to join our family like never before!’
