Former Indian cricketer, VVS Laxman on Friday praised the Pakistani wicket-keeper, Mohammad Rirwan for his dedication and commitment to his team at the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and said, ‘A great example of courage, determination and resilience’.

The 29-year-old battled a serious health issue and spent two nights in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to a severe chest infection before Green-Cap’s clash against Australia in the T20 World Cup semi-final.

Despite being sick Rizwan smashed 67 on 57 balls (three fours, four sixes). However, Pakistan could not secure their spot in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup and suffered a narrow five-wicket defeat against Australia in Dubai on Thursday.

Luxman, came to Twitter to share a snapshot of the 29-year-old in the ICU and praised him by saying, “A great example of courage, determination and resilience. Might not have ended up on the winning side, but Mohd. Rizwan’s grit and fight after being in ICU for two days, truly inspiring. Sport is a great teacher and there is so much to learn from everyone.”

Pakistan cricket team doctor, Najeeb Somroo also praised the wicket-keeper during the post-match press conference and said, “Mohammad Rizwan developed a severe chest infection on November 9 after which he was admitted to the hospital. He spent two nights in the ICU recovering. He made an incredible recovery and was deemed fit before the match. We can see his great determination and tenacity that shows his spirit of performing for the country. And we can see how he performed.”
