Great British Bake Off had its closest episode yet, with Lizzie being eliminated despite creating what many have called her best bake of the series.

Fans were gutted for the baker, as she still had a great week on the show, producing an incredible showstopper bake for free-from week.

Speaking after her elimination, a tearful Lizzie said: ‘I feel really proud of myself, i’m really happy…it was an amazing experience.’

She added to Paul Hollywood: ‘I am proud, it’s happy tears. I can’t wait to go home and walk my dogs!’

Fellow baker Crystelle, who has made it to the semi-final was clearly heartbroken for her pal, giving her a big hug.

Fans are also gutted, with one writing: ‘Having a little cry about losing @lizzieacker_ from #GBBO it’s amazing how invested one gets in this little baking show. Lizzie you did yourself proud.’

‘Justice for Lizzie,’ another declared, while one more said: ‘So sad to see Lizzie go tonight.’

It was a controversial decision for some, with judges Paul and Prue Leith admitting they had to decide who to eliminate based on ‘who deserves their place in the semi-final’ despite it previously being insisted that bakers were judges on a week-to-week basis.

Meanwhile, fans also applauded Lizzie this week after she spoke out about her ADHD.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a condition that affects people’s behaviour. People with ADHD can seem restless, may have trouble concentrating and may act on impulse .

She described her showstopper bake as a ‘celebration of being different’ and explained what it’s like to have ADHD.

‘Some people think that ADHD, you’re gonna be crazy, like loads of energy, but loads of the time it’s like you’ve got too many thoughts in your head and you don’t actually know what to think about,’ she said.

Elsewhere on the episode, Chigs was awarded star baker, while fan favourite Jurgen suffered a disaster in the tent as he dropped a bake.

Great British Bake Off airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
