‘Govt trying to keep commodity prices low despite inflation in global market’

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan assured on Monday that the government was taking measures to keep prices low despite the coronavirus pandemic and rapidly rising commodity and petroleum prices in the international market.

PM Imran Khan said this during a briefing given to him by his economic team on inflation in the international market and rising prices of petroleum products at his office in Islamabad. He said the government had taken exemplary measures to deal with the Covid-19.

“There is a strong focus on stabilising macroeconomic indicators, which are important for economic growth,” said the prime minister. He also directed to ensure implementation of every possible measure to provide relief to the common man.

According to the fresh report of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the Consumer Price Index (CPI), based on monthly inflation, remained in single digit by witnessing an increase of 9.19 percent during October as compared to the corresponding month of the last year.

The urban CPI recorded an increase of 9.55% while Rural CPI recorded an increase of 8.66%, according to the PBS data.
