Ed Sheeran has revealed he questioned his sexuality when he was a child and ‘thought he was gay’.
The Bad Habits singer is married to childhood sweetheart Cherry Seaborn and the couple share 15-month-old daughter Lyra.
However, Ed has said he was convinced he was attracted to men as he enjoyed so-called ‘feminine’ activities such as watching musicals and listening to pop music.
Speaking on the Dutch podcast Man, Man, Man, the singer revealed: ‘I have a definite feminine side, to the point that when I was a kid I thought I was gay for a bit.
‘I definitely have a big feminine side. I love musical theatre, I love pop music, I love Britney Spears.’
He added: ‘My masculine side probably stops at drinking beer and watching football.’
‘I am not a car guy. I like a nice car, but I’m not a car guy.’
It appears to be the first time the singer has publicly revealed his former doubts about his sexuality.
Elsewhere in the podcast, Ed, 30, shared his advice for starting a family and told the podcast hosts not to wait to have a baby as he and Cherry ‘struggled with it a bit’ when trying to conceive.
They welcomed their first child, daughter Lyra, in August 2020 more than two years after the couple secretly tied the knot.
Last week, Ed released his brand new album Equals, which is his most personal record yet with most songs written about his love for Cherry.
On the track First Times, the singer recounts some of his wildest and most favourite memories he’s shared with his wife.
He sings: ‘We’ve ordered pizza to an aeroplane/ Slept on the beach like we were castaways/ We’ve been in the storm/ Been to an Irish bar in central Rome/ Driven to hospitals with broken bone.
‘We made love in the sky/ Overslept and missed the Northern Lights/ You lost your wedding ring, but I didn’t mind/ ‘Cause I got a feeling, baby, we’ll be fine.’
The Shape of You hitmaker also recalled the moment he proposed to Cherry, singing: ‘The greatest thing that I have achieved/ Was four little words, down on one knee/ You said, “Darling, are you jokin’?”, and I just said, “Please”.’
