Colin in Black and White will take a look at the adolescent life of Colin Kaepernick, an NFL player and a hugely important activist in the fight against police brutality.

The series is directed by filmmaker Ava DuVernay, and the American football star expressed his delight at working with the talented director.

Colin said: ‘I’m excited to share this first peek into a project I co-created with the incomparable Ava DuVernay over the past couple of years.’

Here’s everything we know so far.

When is the Colin in Black and White release date?

Netflix previously announced a release date, and confirmed the limited series will premiere on Netflix on October 29, with all six episodes made available at the same time.

The drama series will explore the sports star’s experiences of being a black teenager living with a white adopted family.

Who is in the cast of Colin in Black and White?

The 33-year-old activist will feature as the narrator of the six-episode series, while Jaden Michael portrays Young Colin before he went on to reach the highest levels of American football as an NFL quarterback and become a cultural icon and activist.

Mary Louise Parker and Nick Offerman play Colin’s adoptive parents Rick and Teresa.

Netflix describes the show as a ‘bold new limited series that chronicles Kaepernick’s coming of age story, tackling the obstacles of race, class, and culture as the Black adopted child of a white family.’

Is there a trailer for Colin in Black and White?

Yep, there is.

The trailer takes a look at Colin’s relationship with his parents and his own identity, the racial prejudice he had to deal with in high school and his talent that would help make him a star athlete.

The series promises to guide viewers through a robust and colorfully presented array of historical and contemporary contextual moments.

The six-episode series has been in the works since 2019 and the script was just completed in May.

Emmy Award nominee Michael Starrbury writes and serves as executive producer, alongside Ava and Colin.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Ava said: ‘There were so many stories that he told that Michael Starrbury and I put in something you can view and enjoy and watch in a TV show.’

Colin in Black & White is available to stream on Netflix from October 29.
