PM Imran Khan leaves for Saudi Arabia

Earlier in the day, PM Imran had left for a three-day trip to Saudi Arabia to attend the launch ceremony of the Middle East Green Initiative (MGI) Summit.

The premier is visiting the kingdom at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Energy Minister Hamad Azhar, Special Assistant to PM Imran Khan on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam and other cabinet members are also with him on the trip.

At the MGI Summit, PM Imran will share his perspective on the challenges faced by developing countries due to climate change.

The Foreign Office (FO), in a statement issued a day earlier, said PM Imran in his address to the summit, will share his perspective on the challenges faced by the developing countries due to climate change.

“The prime minister will also highlight Pakistan’s experience of launching nature-based solutions to address the environmental challenges.”

The MGI summit is a brainchild of Prince Mohammed bin Salman and is a first of its kind in the Middle East region.

“It may be recalled “Green Saudi Arabia” and “Green Middle East” initiatives were launched by the crown prince in March 2021, aimed at protecting the nature and planet. Prime Minister Imran Khan welcomed these two initiatives and offered to share experiences and lessons from Pakistan’s clean and green Pakistan and Prime Minister’s 10 billion tree tsunami,” the FO had added.

During the trip, PM Imran is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with the Saudi leadership focusing on “advancing economic and trade relations; creating more opportunities for Pakistani workforce; and welfare of Pakistani diaspora in the Kingdom”.
