LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz urged the world to provide humanitarian aid to Afghanistan following the Taliban takeover of the country.

“It is imperative that a congenial environment be created that would encourage the repatriation of Afghan refugees to their beloved motherland,” Maryam told U.S. Chargé d’affaires in Pakistan Angela Aggeler.

The US diplomat had visited Maryam at her Jati Umra residence in Raiwand during a visit to Lahore.

Maryam told the US official that her father during his tenure followed a non-invasive foreign policy and pursued a pleasant relationship based on mutual trust, peace and development with Pakistan’s neighbours and the international community.

“Pakistan considers Afghanistan as a close neighbourly country and respects its sovereignty, and does not support any interference in its affairs,” she said. She also assured the envoy that her party wishes a “peaceful, developing and prosperous Afghanistan”.

Maryam said that the PML-N wants to strengthen and nurture democracy and democratic values and seeks to join forces with democratic forces of the world.
