Ranvir Singh revealed she had to calm down Strictly Come Dancing star AJ Odudu over the phone after panicking over last weekend’s foxtrot.

During Friday’s episode of It Takes Two, the presenter appeared as a special guest on the celebrity panel, alongside actress Hayley Mills and former politician Gyles Brandreth, and she had some comforting words for fellow presenter AJ.

Chatting to host Rylan Clark-Neal, she said: ‘I actually had a chat with her over the phone, she was panicking a bit about the foxtrot and I said, “Well Anton always said if it doesn’t hurt, you’re not doing it right.”

‘I think she is the one to beat in the show,’ she added.

AJ has been wowing judges Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke from week one.

Her first performance – a jive to Gold Dust by DJ Fresh – dazzled the audience, and earned her a score of 34, the highest week-one score for 16 years.

AJ and dance partner Kai Widdrington danced the foxtrot last weekend and scored 31 points, the joint second-highest marks of the night.

The marks were matched by John Whaite and Johannes Radebe, who danced a Cha Cha, ranking second on the combined leaderboard with a total of 65 points across the first two weeks.

AJ will be taking on the American smooth and channeling her inner Rachel Marron from the romantic thriller The Bodyguard.

Kai and AJ have certainly set the bar high, but who knows what Saturday night could bring?

Last weekend’s elimination saw Nina Wadia as the first to leave the competition, and now the remaining 14 couples will take to the dancefloor this weekend in a spectacular movie week special.

Strictly’s It Takes Two airs weeknights at 6:30pm on BBC Two Strictly Come Dancing returns Saturday 6.45pm on BBC One.
