Loose Women star Frankie Bridge thinks Nick Robinson did the right thing in telling Boris Johnson to ‘stop talking’, as she thinks the Prime Minister ‘doesn’t warrant respect’ at the moment.

BBC Radio 4 presenter Robinson created a viral moment when he told Mr Johnson to pipe down as they spoke at the annual Conservative Party conference in Manchester this week.

Robinson attempted to discuss the Government’s focus on British workers in the wake of Brexit but Mr Johnson tried to steer the talk in another direction.

Reacting to the interview on ITV’s Loose Women on Wednesday, Frankie said: ‘I think everyone’s had enough. I think the issue is yes, he should have a level of respect but I just don’t think he warrants it lately.

‘I think people are frustrated, I think people have had enough and I think he talks around the houses. He talks a lot but doesn’t really say anything like most politicians do really.

‘I think it is rude to interrupt him, but I think when you hear that there, he couldn’t get a word in edgeways, Boris wasn’t really saying anything and maybe he feels like his job is to get the answers for the nation that are listening, to get them the answers they want and that was the only way he could get them.’

Carol McGiffen agreed and said that Robinson was saying ‘what most people were thinking’ and simply wanting Mr Johnson to answer the question.

‘I know it’s novel, I know it’s not often done by politicians because you know what they do, they go round the houses, they skirt, they bluster, especially Boris it has to be said,’ she said.

‘It’s just words and it doesn’t mean anything and I think people have had enough.

‘The good thing that Nick Robinson has done is he’s kind of reflected how a lot of people feel because for too long, journalists have been far too respectful of politicians, they’ve let them get away with murder and actually journalists are thinking people are all sick of this. We are all bored of it.’

Carol added: ‘Like Frankie just said, they are changing their tune and I think that’s a really good thing. I was cheering when I heard that.’

Co-host Charlene White also said: ‘I agree with the ladies, politicians do do a lot to evade the actual question.’

In their awkward exchange, Robinson said: ‘Prime minister, you’ve made that point at length in a series of interviews up to this point.’

Mr Johnson replied: ‘Hang on, I haven’t had a chance [at] this point on your show for two years – by your own account!’ to which the host insisted: ‘That was your choice not ours.’

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV.
