Gino D’Acampo had viewers cracking up with Monday’s episode of Gordon, Gino and Fred Go Greek, when it was revealed the Italian chef expected to be visiting pyramids when he travelled to Athens in the next episode.

Along with Gordon Ramsay and Fred Sirieix, Gino had enjoyed an odyssey around the Greek islands on a catamaran, visiting places including Crete, Santorini and Mykonos as the boys experienced everything from pastry and sausage making to bathing in volcanic mud.

It was the final moment of the episode that had the always-enthusiastic audience in stiches though, as Gino got a little confused by his ancient cultures.

Athens is home to the Acropolis, an ancient citadel that houses ruins including those of the Parthenon, rather than pyramids, which are found in Egypt.

Fred seemed up to speed with what to expect, as he exclaimed: ‘I can’t wait to get to Athens – birthplace of democracy, of philosophy – so many things were born there!’

Gino, meanwhile, demonstrated his lack of preparedness as he declared: ‘I have to be honest, I’ve never been in [sic] Athens before. I know that there is a lot of things to learn, pyramids to go and see…’

It was only when a member of the crew alerted him to his confusion that he became aware of the mistake, but he breezed past it in typical Gino fashion.

‘No pyramids in Athens? No? Eh – potato, potahto,’ he said.

Fans were loving Gino’s mistake – and attitude – on social media.

‘Pyramids in Athens ….Gino is TV gold,’ wrote one viewer, while another tweeted: ‘Pyramid’s in greece who’d of thought [sic]’, with a line of laugh-crying emojis.

One was tickled by his casual attitude, commenting: ‘No pyramids in Athens?….potato, potato.’

Elsewhere, the cuisine experts shared memories of their best-ever meals, with Gordon giving that accolade to the time he cooked for Princess Diana.

Gordon, Gino and Fred Go Greek continues at 9pm on Monday October 4 on ITV.
