After being coupled up from the start, former islanders Liberty Poole, 22 and Jake Cornish, 24 were the initial favourites to win this year’s series.

However, after a tumultuous couple of days before the final they both decided to go their separate ways and leave the villa together and now, according to Liberty, they’re no longer in contact.

The water engineer faced doubt about his feelings for Liberty which sparked a number of viewers to question whether he lied about being sick so he could avoid any inevitable awkwardness at the Love Island reunion special.

Speaking to The Mirror at the Tric Awards, Liberty said: ‘I do think he was genuinely ill for the reunion.’

‘I don’t keep in contact with him every day anymore, obviously we’re exes.’

She added: ‘We’re friends, no bad blood. Hopefully he’s alright but I’m not too sure.’

Although her Love Island journey had an abrupt ending, the former waitress received an overwhelming outpouring of love from fans everywhere, making her the second-most followed islander, behind this year’s winner Millie Court.

However, with all that exposure the former waitress said she hasn’t had any male attention since leaving the show.

She said: ‘Everyone’s been saying who’s slid into your DMs, but honestly I haven’t had any guys slide into my DMs.’

Liberty added: ‘It’s mainly been teenage girls saying you’ve inspired me, which is really nice.’

Fans were not happy with the advice Jake was giving to the boys during their time in Casa Amor (Picture: ITV/Rex/Shutterstock)

Viewers sensed that Jake potentially only had eyes on the prize money after infamously egging the boys on to cheat during their time in Casa Amor, in the suspected hopes of leaving himself and Liberty as the only strong couple.

However, eagle-eyed fans, and even other islanders, sensed Liberty was the one who carried Jake through the show.

Some fans even took it a step further and campaigned on Twitter for Liberty to take home the £50,000 prize-money alone.

All seasons of Love Island can be streamed on ITVHub now.
